2013 BMW M5 represents next iteration of the manufacturer's sublime Motor sport tuned performance luxury sedan. New engine supplants the high revving 500 horse V10 powering the previous generation M5. Complementing this new power plant is BMW's seven speed automated manual dual clutch transmission in place of the previous single clutch SMG setup. Overall, BMW has added sophistication and performance to this legendary driver's sedan.
2013 BMW M5 will boast a new engine, improved suspension and weight saving advances when it arrives at US BMW Centers in late summer 2012.
A choice of transmissions is available: 6 speed manual and 7 speed dual clutches automatic with manual shifting mode. The latter replaces previous generation's SMG sequential automated manual gearbox. That said, the M5's curb weight is beefy 4300 pounds, nearly 100 pounds heavier than standard 5 Series with similar features. Purists may balk at BMW's high tech solution for letting drivers hear the growl of their V8 engines without irking passersby: digital signal processor translates data from the engine management system and reproduces engine noises through the car's six speaker audio system.
Following is performance capsule review of the 2013 BMW M5. So far, reviewers are floored by BMW’s newest M car. The 2013 M5 is a performance tuned variant of the BMW 5 Series, composed handling luxurious cabin and long list of convenience features.
The 2013 BMW M5’s engine is the same size as X6 M and X5 M, but it’s also more advanced and powerful than BMW’s high performance SUVs. Overall, reviewers love the 2013 M5’s blistering acceleration and athletic handling. Like the BMW M3, a seven speed automated manual transmission with paddle shifters standard, but 7 speed manual transmissions is available at no extra cost. Because it’s future model, the EPA hasn’t reported the 2013 BMW M5’s estimated fuel economy yet. Models equipped with the automated manual transmission also get BMW’s Drive logic system, which has automatic and manual modes, as well as three shift programs that offer better efficiency or sportier performance.
BMW has announced that the new BMW M5 will be available with an exclusive Frozen Black finish, which will be available to customers through the BMW Individual personalization program. This color was previously offered for BMW M3 Frozen Black special edition
For the first time in BMW M5 the company has used turbocharged engine. BMW spent great deal of time bragging about their new M5, only to disappoint with the announced 0 60 mph sprint time. Lucky for BMW, Car and Driver has expert drivers that were able to drive the new sports sedan the way it was meant to be driven. With the help of these drivers, BMW M5 has been able to clock a0 60 mph sprint in 3.7 seconds. Eat that, BMW the engine will be mated to seven speed double clutch transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels.
The transmission offers a sequential shift pattern for manual gearshift mode and the driver can also change gear manually using the standard fitted shift paddles on steering wheel – right hand paddle for up shifts and the left hand paddle for downshifts. Alternatively, BMW has decided to offer 6 speed manual transmission on the North American version of the upcoming 2013 BMW M5. This new lap time also matches the Ring time of the Ferrari F430.
The next BMW M5 will take on models like the Audi S6, Cadillac CTS V, and Jaguar XF R
